It’s design-led, expert-guided, and completely independent from sales — so the focus stays where it should: on what works best for you.

It’s the first (and most important) step toward a kitchen that feels good to use every day.

Things like cabinetry colours and stone benchtops matter — and we can help with those too, if you need it later — but first, it’s about getting the flow and function right. That’s where the real beauty lies.

How it works

Our layout service is all delivered online. Meaning you can access our services from anywhere

Once you book us in, we’ll send you a quick questionnaire to help us understand your space and how you use it.

We’ll cover things like storage needs, plumbing restrictions, layout limitations, and most importantly — how you need your kitchen to work

We’ll ask you to email us your existing room plan (a hand-drawn sketch is totally fine!) and we’ll guide you through exactly what we need to get started.

Then we’ll book in a 30-minute phone or Zoom session to dig into the details — how you live, what you love, and how we can bring your kitchen wish list to life.

We’ll then send you your perfect layout within 7 days. You’ll receive a followup phone call or zoom session to go through your design and one round of revision based on your notes from that session if required.

Why Not Just Use a Free Design Service?

Because I’ve been a “free designer” — and I know exactly what that means.

After graduating from my interior design degree, and before founding Flokk Studio, I worked for a large kitchen retailer that offered “free design” as part of their service. On the surface, it sounds like a good deal — but what I quickly learned was that the word “free” reflected exactly how much the company valued design. The answer was: not at all.

The role was entirely sales-driven. We were expected to walk into someone’s home, take a rushed brief, design a kitchen, and close the sale — all within three hours. There was no real time to explore the client’s needs, no room to reflect, and no genuine intent to create the best result. The goal was to walk out the door with a signed contract and a deposit.

It felt disingenuous — and like a disservice to people trusting us with such a significant part of their home and a huge personal investment.

Flokk’s Kitchen Planning Service is an alternative to sales led kitchen design.

Our service is for people who care about good design.

It’s for anyone who wants to feel informed and in control before walking into a showroom or speaking to a cabinetmaker.

We start with the layout — the foundation of any great kitchen. We use our expertise to devise the best layout for you and your home. This includes thoughtful consideration of workflow, how your kitchen connects to rest of your home and the outside. We use our kitchen design knowledge to arrange key elements like appliances, storage, lighting and work zones.

We can plan around completely custom sizing or work if you’re working with a big brand retailer we’ll make sure out plan suits their sizing.

Once you have your layout, you can take it anywhere:

To a cabinetmaker, kitchen retailers, or flat-pack suppliers. It puts you in control of the process — ready to compare quotes, ask the right questions and be safe in the knowlege we’ve designed the perfect kitchen for you.

  • Not at all. A hand-drawn sketch with room dimensions is absolutely fine. Once you book, we’ll send you a simple form to guide you through what to include.

  • Yes. If you're planning a DIY kitchen using a flatpack or modular range, we can design with that in mind — making sure everything fits, flows, and functions well.

  • That’s perfect — this plan is designed to support those early conversations. You’ll be able to brief your team clearly and compare quotes using one consistent layout.

  • You’ll receive a link to upload your sketch, measurements, notes about your space and your kitchen dreams and any photos you may have as well our client questionaire. After we receive those we’ll book a quick one on one, delivery by zoom or phone.

    Once we have what we need, we’ll get started — and your finished layout will be emailed within 7 days.

  • Yes. Your design will be supplied as a Scaled PDF Floorplan with clear notated dimensions that you can pass on to cabinetmakers, kitchen companies or tradies.

  • Yes. One round of revision is included. That’s where our follow up phone call comes in to play. We’ll discuss the layout, the reason behind our choices then we’ll make one round of revisions for free.

  • You’re welcome to upgrade to a more detailed design package anytime. We’ll have your base layout already, so it’s an easy next step if you want to keep going. We have plenty of easy add ons to get the level of detail you need.
